There were two opponents on the field against the Lady Blues this week, the Mineral Wells Rams and over 40 mph winds. Graham pushed and came away with one final win to close out their district schedule.
The game opened Tuesday, March 4 with a pass to senior Camden Thorne who was injured and in crutches to give her one final moment at home with her teammates. The play was followed up with a hug from a Mineral Wells player as well as from head coach Casey Weil and teammate Tara Dawson.
It had been less than a month since Graham’s previous win Friday, Feb. 14 over Mineral Wells of 1-0. The same defense that held in that game was on display at home Tuesday.
Much like the three games held just before the Lady Blues matchup against the Lady Rams, the team fought to control the ball as the wind pushed things in every direction and caused a headache for both teams.
The teams fought the gusts of wind and the wind chills pushing temperatures to near freezing.
It was a back and forth effort the entirety of the first half with Olivia Pettus, Adi Pinkston and Marisa Bueno pushing the forward momentum for the team.
Pettus ran past the defense and came close to a goal with 22 minutes left on the clock and near the end of the first half Pinkston also came close with a free kick and attempt with less than 10 seconds left.
Things changed in the second half with the Lady Blues showing the determination they have had on display all year.
Wilde ran down the field within the first 10 minutes of the second half and made a goal to bring the team ahead and put the first points on the board for both teams.
That play was later followed up by a corner kick from Mai Bara which was headed by Pinkston, headed by a Lady Rams player and later passed to Pinkston who made a shot that bounced out of the goalie’s hand and into the net.
The defense held strong as they did the whole game and that was the final score made all game, with the Lady Blues pulling away with a 2-0 win.
The Lady Blues were able to bring another win Tuesday, and their work all season was honored before the start of their game.
Four senior players were escorted to the field and cheered on by family, friends and the community as they moved on to the next chapter of their lives. Lady Blues seniors recognized were Kinsley Amburn, Pettus, Thorne and Wilde.
