Lady Blues defeat Sweetwater in postseason primer
The Lady Blues played one last match before yesterday’s bi-district playoff Friday night when the team hosted Sweetwater. The match gave the young Lady Blues squad a chance to prepare for a team on short notice and other playoff-type scenarios. The Lady Blues will enter the playoffs with a 30-10-1 record after defeating the Lady Mustangs 25-14, 25-8, 25-13.
Sweetwater held one lead for the entirety of the match, a 1-0 lead after a block/kill by Aunisti Griffin. Trinity Gregory scored on a kill, the first point of a 4-0 run and the Lady Blues never looked back. Miya Cantwell served two aces and Lillian Noble scored on a kill in the run.
The Lady Mustangs proved to be little trouble for the Lady Blues. The visitors did not score more than 14 points in a set in the loss. The Lady Blues won with their largest lead of the set after kills by Noble and Rachel Grimsley.
Sweetwater gave little resistance in the second set as the Lady Blues jumped ahead early and never looked back. The Lady Blues went on an 8-0 run in the middle of the set with Grimsley serving. The run started with back-to-back points scored by Grimsley with a kill to take serve and she began her serve with an ace. She had two aces and in the run. Gregory added two kills while Braylee Mayes and Emma Parker each had kills. Three straight errors by the Lady Mustangs gave the Lady Blues the win.
