GRAHAM— More than 30 Graham High School track and field athletes advanced to the Area Track and Field Meet with the Lady Blues capturing the Region 1 District 6 Meet title in the process. The Lady Blues took first after nearly doubling their nearest competitor in points while the Steers tied Hirschi for second place with 133 points, 42 points behind meet champion Vernon. Girls results Junior Jasmine Sims’ first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (15.95 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (49.94) gave the Lady Blues a boost in the final day of competition. Sims also qualified for the area meet after taking second in the long jump (16-4 3/4), third in the high jump (4-6) and helped the 400-meter relay team to a first place finish Wednesday night. “It’s a lot of hard work,” Sims said. “We worked really hard to get where we are at. I get out everyday just working on hurdles and my technique. I’ve progressed a lot since the beginning of the season. I was in the 17’s and I’ve progressed all the way to the 16’s.” Sims was not the only athlete to qualify for the area meet in multiple events. Freshman Chloe Menard already qualified after taking second in the high jump Monday, but earned her first gold medal in the triple jump (33-9).
