The Lady Blues got their first taste of on-field action in a scrimmage match against Sanger, impressing the hometown crowd with an 8-0 victory over the Lady Indians.

Head coach Casey Weil said there was a lot to brag about from the game Friday, Dec. 12.

“To be able to come out and score eight goals—that’s very promising. If we can come out and put that many goals in, that makes us extremely happy and also to keep a clean sheet and not allow any goals,” Weil said.

The Lady Blues got off to a hot start, scoring a goal in the opening minutes of the first half and then scoring their second later in that half on a penalty kick.

The Lady Blues were able to score for a third time after sneaking a ball through the Sanger goalie’s legs to take a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

Weil had many positive things to say to the team during halftime, particularly remarking he liked how the team constantly fought for possession and won a lot of “50/50 balls” as well as kicks in the air.

This allowed the team to create more offensive opportunities to put pressure on Sanger’s defense.

The Lady Blues came out in the second half firing once again and erupted for five goals to get to the final score.

The entire team was strong from an offensive standpoint but one player who stood out in particular was Ella Pettus, who had a hat trick with three goals and made a strong impression in the team’s first stretch of live action play.

After one final scrimmage matchup Tuesday, Dec. 16, the Lady Blues will kick off regular season action at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 against Abilene High on the road.
