The Lady Blues watched victory slip from their grasp Tuesday night at Graham High School. After taking an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter, the Lady Blues were held to four points in the fourth and fell to Brownwood 37-30.

Tuesday night was the final pre-district tuneup for the Lady Blues. The Lady Lions opened the game with four straight points. Rachel Grimsley put the Lady Blues on the board with a 1-2 trip to the free-throw line with 4:46 remaining in the quarter. Freshman Emilee Gordy scored the remaining four points in the quarter as the Lady Blues trailed 6-5 going into the second quarter.

Hannah Williams gave the Lady Blues the first lead of the game with the first basket in the second quarter. After the Lady Lions briefly regained the lead with 5:20 left in the half, the Lady Blues closed with an 8-2 run to lead 15-10 at halftime. Kate Gober and Aliyah Saldivar each scored baskets from a steal. Taylor Wilborn scored on a second-chance opportunity to give the Lady Blues a 13-8 lead. After a 2-point basket that ended a five-minute drought for the Lady Lions, Wilborn gave the Lady Blues a five-point lead going into halftime.

“I thought we played well for the most part in the first half,” Lady Blues coach Ky Graham said. “Defensively, we were doing what we needed to go and getting steals. We just couldn’t always get baskets after those steals. Taylor hit some huge baskets for us and for three quarters, we were patient with the ball.”
