It was a tough weekend for the Lady Blues softball team as they competed in the Iowa Park tournament against a wide range of competition.

Graham went 1-4 in their five games, with the win coming in the final game Saturday, March 2 against Brock. Below are results, write-ups and stats from each of the team’s matchups.

Lady Blues v. Amarillo, (L) 6-1

The Lady Blues opened their weekend with a matchup with 5A Amarillo in which Graham struggled.

But for the first two innings, the Lady Blues hung with the Sandies. Amarillo scored in the first inning to go up 1-0 before Larissa Warren drove in Kathryn Hughes in the second inning on a single to tie it at 1-1.

Warren went 1-for-2 with the RBI, Hughes went 1-for-1 with the lone run scored while Emily Lawson went 1-for-3.

Lady Blues v. Cooper, (L) 10-9

Through the first two innings, Graham found themselves trailing 6-1. But then the offense exploded for eight runs in the third inning to go up 9-6 before they allowed four runs to Cooper in the fourth and fell 10-9.

Graham’s biggest hit of the game came in the huge third inning after they loaded the bases for Lawson.

On the first pitch of the at-bat, Lawson hit a grand slam to center field to score four runs and increase her team’s lead.

However, Graham’s pitching and defense couldn’t hold onto the lead and Cooper came back to pull out the win.

Lawson finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs while Meagan Brooks and Zoey Harrell each went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, respectively.

Lady Blues v. West Plains, (L) 6-0

On day two of the tournament, the Lady Blues’ offense faced some tough times. Against West Plains, Graham managed just three hits while committing three errors in the field to help the Wolves earn the win.

Lawson, Harrell and Warren each had singles in the game and finished with identical 1-for-2 statlines.

Lady Blues v. Henrietta, (L) 11-0

In the second game of the second day, the Lady Blues had one of their more difficult games of the season.

The offense managed just one hit in the matchup while the pitchers allowed 11 runs, six of which were earned.

The team had three walks and tried to get things going on the basepaths but they faced quality pitchers and couldn’t make much happen.

Lady Blues v. Brock, (W) 13-5

On their third day of play and fifth game of the weekend, the Lady Blues’ offense regained its confidence in a big win over Brock.

Graham recorded 16 hits and scored 13 runs, aided by six errors from the Lady Eagles. The Lady Blues exploded in the first inning for eight runs with singles, walks and a double.

That inning was more than enough for Reese Calhoun in the pitching circle as she threw five innings, gave up five runs (four earned) and struck out four hitters.

Hughes went 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored and two RBIs, Peyton Dobbs went 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Harrell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, as well. Paris Tate hit 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Lawson finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
