Lady Blues face injuries, adversity in Fredricksburg

The Lady Blues entered the Fredricksburg Tournament as a team facing injury issues with the loss of Katie Coyac. Kate Gober was injured in the opening game and played hurt throughout the tournament as the Lady Blues battled to a 2-3 record over the weekend.

Antonio Prep (San Antonio) 55, Lady Blues 35

Lady Blues leading scorer suffered an injury in the opening minute of the game and missed the rest of the game. Rachel Grimsley led a nearly even scoring effort across the roster.

Antonio Prep jumped ahead 21-4 in the first quarter and never looked back. Grimsley and Aliyah Salvidar had field goals for the Lady Blues in the first quarter.

The Lady Blues’ deficit grew deeper in the second quarter. Grimsley had four points while her team was outscored  11-4.

In the second half, the Lady Blues outscored Antonio Prep 27-24. The third quarter, while showing slight improvement by the Lady Blues, heavily favored Antonio Prep. The Lady Blues had points by Erica Popplewell, Taylor Wilborn and Emilee Gordy. Antonio Prep outscored the Lady Blues 20-7.

The shots started dropping too late for the Lady Blues, who trailed 51-15 going into the fourth quarter. Six different Lady Blues found the basket in the fourth quarter, led by five points from Hannah Williams.

Grimsley finished the game with eight points. Wilborn and Popplewell each had six points. Williams scored five points and Salvidar added four points.
