The Lady Blues fell to 1-2 in district play this season, losing to the Brock Lady Eagles, 11-1, at Hogan Field.
After giving up two runs Tuesday, March 24 in the first inning, a series of defensive miscues by the Lady Blues led to a seven-run second inning for the Lady Eagles. The visitors added another pair of runs in the third inning to open up an 11-run advantage.
“Brock is a solid softball team; they’ve got a pitcher that throws the hardest in the district,” Lady Blues coach Adam Arrington said. “We battled at the plate defensively, but we made some throwing errors and some costly errors with (Brock) having runners in scoring position.”
Arrington said limiting the errors in the second inning would have helped the Lady Blues get out of the second inning without runs scored.
Tiffany Cotter scored the Lady Blues’ lone run of the game to avoid a shutout when she took advantage of an error by the Lady Eagles’ defense from a ball hit by Larissa Warren.
Offensively, the Lady Blues were held to two hits. Ruby Shaffer opened the bottom of the first inning with a ground ball single to left field. Cotter singled on a ground ball to third base with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Hosting Brownwood Friday, March 27, the Lady Blues looked to rebound against the Lady Lions, who also entered the game with a 1-2 district record with losses to Glen Rose and Stephenville.
Next week, the Lady Blues will play games both on the road and on Hogan Field. The team will travel Tuesday, March 31 to Mineral Wells to meet the Lady Rams. The second half of the district schedule will begin Thursday when the Lady Blues host Stephenville at 6:30 p.m.
