While the opening for the Lady Blues senior night matchup against the Brownwood Lady Lions had everything going for it, the team lost its steam and the game ended in a 23-46 loss.
One thing that has been an ongoing improvement for the Lady Blues has been its confidence on the court, something head coach Baylee Thompson has worked to instill in the team.
That confidence was on display in the first quarter of the game Friday, Jan. 31. A 3-point shot from Hallie Gough and two 2-point shots from Addyson Weaver and Briley Randall as well as a made free throw from Randall brought the team ahead.
At the end of the first the score was at 8-7 and that is when things took a turn for the worst for Lady Blues.
The team was held to zero points for the entirety of the second quarter while the Lady Lions managed to put 12 points on the board and bring the game to 8-19 at halftime.
In the third quarter Brownwood continued its scoring rush putting 15 points. The Lady Blues were saved by a 3-point shot from Randall and made free throw shots from Ava Street and Weaver to bring them back to the board.
While the shots made a difference for the Lady Blues it was only five points and now a 21-point difference between the two teams moving into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Blues got a wake-up call in the fourth quarter with a 3-point shot from Randall, 2-point shots from Randall and Weaver and made free throws from Fayth Bryer and Weaver.
Despite the confidence for the team returning in the fourth quarter, the final push was not enough to stop the scoring rush from Brownwood which persisted until the game ended in a loss for Graham.
Leading in scoring for the Lady Blues was Randall with 11 points, followed by Weaver with seven points, Gough with three points and Bryer and Street with one point each.
Following the game Friday was an honors ceremony for the seniors on the Lady Blues team.
Honored in the ceremony were seniors Rebecca McGregor, Bryer, Gough and Ariana Baeza.
The final game for the team was held Tuesday, Feb. 4 against Mineral Wells, which was a rematch from their previous game held Friday, Jan. 17.
The team was knocked out of a potential playoff spot after Brownwood toppled Stephenville with a one-point win at the end of January.
