The Lady Blue softball team fell 2-0 in a defensive struggle at home on Hogan Field against the Brownwood Lady Lions. The loss dropped the Lady Blues to 1-3 through four games of district play.
Offensively, the Lady Blues were held to two hits Friday, March 27 by Lady Lions pitcher Kaydence Allen, who struck out 11 Lady Blues batters.
The Lady Blues’ lone hit of the game came from a two-out single to right field by Hudson Wright in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wright, Hadleigh Allen and Kerstin Schupbach each drew walks.
Defensively, the Lady Blues held the Lady Lions with runs until the seventh inning, when a two-run single by the Lady Lions’ Audrey Keas broke the 0-0 tie. A strikeout and a pair of groundouts prevented a seventh-inning rally by the host Lady Blues. The Lady Blues finished the game with five runners left on base.
“(We) played great defense and couldn’t get the timely hit we needed with runners on base,” Lady Blues coach Adam Arrington said.
Tiffany Cotter gave up six hits and two runs while striking out 11 batters, including three strikeouts thrown to Lady Lions’ batter Maitlyn Esquivel.
The Lady Blues closed out the month of March and the first half of the district schedule with a game Tuesday, March 31, against Mineral Wells.
Graham will host the Stephenville Honeybees Friday to open the second half of the district schedule. The game will have a special start time of 1 p.m.
