Lady Blues gain confidence in Iowa Park district loss

The Lady Blues traveled to Iowa Park Tuesday night to take on the Lady Hawks in a battle for first place in district 5-4A. The Lady Blues overcame an early double-digit deficit. Ultimately, it was the Lady Hawks coming out on top, 43-39.

Both teams entered the game with 1-0 records in the district. The Lady Blues defeated Burkburnett Jan. 7. The Lady Hawks had defeated Vernon 71-19 the same night.

The Lady Hawks have two main scoring options, Bella Dickens and Raylea Parsons. Their scoring prowess was on display from the start. The pair combined for eight of 11 points in a run by the Lady Hawks to open the game. The Lady Blues were held without points until a 3-pointer by Kate Gober with three minutes left in the quarter. With the Lady Blues’ defensive intensity picked up, the Lady Blues closed the quarter by outscoring the Lady Hawks 11-5 over the final three minutes of the quarter.

The game looked like a 3-point shootout at the start. Both teams combined for six 3-pointers in the quarter and 15 in the game. Gober had two 3-pointers to open the game, Parsons had two for the Lady Hawks. Gracyn Fields added a third for the Lady Hawks. Katie Coyac score her first of three as time expired to end the first quarter.
