The Lady Blues are one step closer to the playoffs and a second consecutive district championship. It did not always look pretty after they walked away with a 35-33 victory at Iowa Park Tuesday night.

What ended up as a low-scoring defensive affair started fast-paced. After giving up the game’s opening basket, the Lady Blues jumped ahead via a 9-3 run. Katie Coyac scored all five of her points in the 90-second run. Kate Gober added four more via the free-throw line.

The Lady Hawks bounced to pull within one with points coming from Emma Schubert and Bella Dickens. Those proved to be among the final points of the quarter for them. The Lady Blues held the Lady Hawks to two points in the final four minutes of the quarter with a 9-0 run to hold an 18-10 lead at the end of the quarter. Twelve of the Lady Blues’ 18 points were from Gober, including 6-6 from the free-throw line.
