Lady Blues JV split in Stamford

The Lady Blues JV Red team earned Graham’s lone win Tuesday, Nov 29 at Stamford High School. While the varsity lost 44-22 and with JV Blue losing 51-19, JV Red earned the only win of the night with a 32-26 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs took an early five-point lead before Mayci Ryans, with an assist from Macee Wilde, scored on a 3-pointer with 3:51 remaining in the quarter to cut the deficit to two points. After a second five-point run by the Lady Bulldogs, Ryans connected on her second of three 3-pointers in the game with 2:23 remaining. The basket started a seven-point run to close the quarter tied at 10-10. 

Ryans had seven points and one assist in the quarter. Her steal with just over 90 seconds remaining led to her game-tying basket. 

The Lady Blues’ 7-0 run to close the first quarter extended into the second quarter with eight straight points. Defensively, the Lady Blues held the Lady Bulldogs without points until 50 seconds were remaining in the quarter. 

Briley Randall scored her team’s first points with a free throw, 10 seconds into the quarter. Ryans followed with an assist to Evie May’s 3-pointer, 37 seconds later. May scored all seven of her points in the second quarter. 

The Lady Bulldogs charged back in the third quarter to tie the game. Opening the quarter with five-straight points, the Lady Blues’ lead was cut to one point. Ryans scored the first of two field goals for the Lady Blues in the quarter after her steal with 4:13 remaining. The Lady Blues were held to one other basket in the third quarter. After the Lady Bulldogs took a 22-20 lead, Randall drew the teams even with an assist from Camden Thorne with 1:45 remaining in the third quarter. The Lady Blues missed four free throw attempts to remain tied at the end of the quarter. 

The Lady Blues controlled the game offensively and defensively the rest of the way. Holding the Lady Bulldogs without points over the first five minutes of the final quarter, the Lady Blues scored 10 straight points. Randall scored her final points of the game to open the quarter with an assist from May. Ryans followed, 30 seconds later, with a 3-pointer and an assist from Wilde. Thorne and Wilde also scored 2-point field goals for the Lady Blues in the closing quarter. 

Ryans led all scorers with 14 points. May finished the game with seven points and Randall had five points. Tara Dawson, Thorne and Wilde each had two points. 

Stamford 51, JV Blue 19

The Lady Blues were held to one field goal in the opening quarter. Diana Simental added one free throw to Rebekah Gilbertson’s two points. Trailing 16-3 after the first quarter, the Lady Blues could not mount a comeback.

Both teams scored six points each in the second quarter. Larissa Warren had two points and Addison Agraz had four of her team-high six points in the second quarter.

The Lady Blues were outscored 27-10 in the second half.

Simental finished the game with four points. Savannah Fricks scored three points. Daci Andrews and Gilbertson each added two points.

Both junior varsity teams are competing this weekend in the Mineral Wells JV tournament at Mineral Wells High School. 

Following the Mineral Wells tournament, both JV teams will tip off in Bridgeport at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity.
