The Lady Blues entered Monday’s road trip to Vernon with one goal in mind, locking up third place in District 5-4A. Their 13-0, six-inning win Monday night locked in the team’s finish and sets up their spot in the playoff bracket.

The first inning was a brief struggle for the Lady Blues. After having their side retired in order to open the game, an error with one out allowed the Lady Lions a runner during the bottom of the first inning. An error at third base gave the Lady Lions a runner in scoring position with one out. Reese Calhoun took matters into her own hands with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

Rainey Ortegon scored the game’s first run during the top of the second inning and the Lady Blues never looked back. Ortegon hit a two-out single to shortstop. With Zoey Harrell at the plate, Ortegon stole second base and reached third following an error at second base by the Lady Lions. Ortegon scored on an RBI single by Harrell. A single by Olga Morales and a walk by Miya Cantwell gave the Lady Blues loaded bases with two outs for their leadoff hitter. Tate flew out to end the top of the inning.
