The Lady Blues’ bats came alive too late Tuesday night. The team went three innings without a baserunner and 6 1/3 innings without a hit. Vernon piled on six runs in the first two innings to run away with a 10-3 win over the Lady Blue at the Graham High School softball field.

Shay Williams proved to be too much in the pitcher’s circle. She struck out eight of the Lady Blues’ first nine batters. In the first and third innings, she struck out the side in order. The defense continued to be a struggle for the Lady Blues, giving up six unearned runs on six errors between three players.

“Our defense continues to struggle and that’s on coaching at this point,” Lady Blues coach Adam Arrington. “We’ve got to put the girls in the right positions to make plays. I don’t know if we need to find new drills in practice. We just aren’t getting it done right now.”
