Lady Blues notch first home win of season

Celeste Aguirre ripped a team-high 6 kills in Tuesday’s 3-0, (25-6, 25-20 and 25-15) sweep of Class 5A Wichita Falls Old High at Graham High School gym.

Coming off an impressive weekend at the Shallowater Tournament, the Lady Blues continue to grow in the early part of the schedule.

Head coach Marci Faulk admits her young team has come a long way from the end of the season a year ago to now.

“We have definitely improved from where we were at back on the first of the month,” Faulk said. “Out in Shallowater we played six matches and three of those went to the final set, which to me, says a lot about their hard and they are willing to fight to win. They aren’t giving up during these first few games. We got beat in the first set in the tournament and when you get beat in the opening set and still find a way to win, that shows that you have the desire to win.”

Strong performances also came from Chloe Menard with 4 kills, 2 blocks and 12 assists. Alex Husen helped with 4 kills while Britain Thayer contributed in the victory by recording 3 kills, Jillian Wendel, Sierra Morris and Morgan Patterson each had 2 kills. Hannah Isom also had a kill and 3 blocks to go along. Avery Iles provided a team-high 13 assists and 2 aces.

Graham started strong in the opening set. An ace from Patterson put the team up 12-4 before Husen hammered a kill to send the Lady Blues to a 22-5 lead, they would go on to take a dominating 25-6 win in the first set.
