Lady Blues open district with win over Lady Rams

Fri, 09/30/2022 - 10:26 am

Entering the district schedule on a nine-match winning streak, the Lady Blues hosted an improved Mineral Wells Lady Rams volleyball team. The Lady Blues celebrated homecoming weekend with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-22 victory over the Lady Rams.

Head coach Marci Faulk preached to her team that points would be hard to come by once district play began. While that lesson was not immediately seen, the Lady Blues did see that district wins will not come easy.

Lillian Noble opened the match with back-to-back kills for the Lady Blues. Braylee Mayes and Trinity Gregory also contributed to a 9-1 lead to open the match. Mayes scored one kill and three service aces as part of the fast start.

Lady Rams senior Hailee Cunningham ended her side’s scoring drought with the Lady Rams’ first kill to make the score 9-3. The previous two points for the Lady Rams came from errors by the Lady Blues. Nevaeh Strange and Kahlea Samples added kills as the Lady Rams tried to climb back into the set. Multiple errors made that difficult to achieve and kept the Lady Blues ahead.

Mayes scored the Lady Blues’ first kill in 13 rallies to give the Lady Blues a 15-8 advantage. Three errors by the visitors and kills from Mayes and Noble extended the lead to 18-8, their largest lead of the set.
