It was a long evening for the Lady Blues this past weekend in their match up versus Iowa Park.
However, Graham was able to grind out a thrilling five set win over the Lady Hawks.
This is the second time this season the team has gone to five sets in a non-tournament match and head coach Marci Faulk credits the team for keeping their cool during times of adversity.
“I’m very proud of how they kept their composure,” Faulk said. “One thing that impresses me is I don’t feel like we backed down and played scared. I love the fact that we stayed aggressive.”
The match took place Friday, Sept. 5, in the Graham High School gym just before the Steers home opening football game.
The Lady Blues got off to a slow start in set one dropping it 25-20. They bounced back in set two however, picking up a close 25-22 victory over the Lady Hawks.
The Lady Blues then kept their momentum going, picking up their most dominant set win in set three with a 25-16 victory.
On the verge of losing the match entirely, the Lady Hawks fought back and picked up a 25-21 set four victory, and after that it all came down to a deciding set five.
It was once again a close affair, but the Lady Blues came through and pulled it out 15-13 to take the set and the match.
Emily Hughes, Madison Cauble and Kay McGehee led the way with kills tallying eight each. Tara Dawson was right behind those three with seven kills and Rylee Moore had five.
Kaden Atwood and McGehee both picked up 17 digs each defensively while Kya Cooper and Cauble both had seven. Cooper also recorded 19 assists as a setter.
Hughes and Moore once again came through in the front row defensively with three blocks respectively while Atwood and Dawson were catalysts at the service line.
Atwood picked up four aces while Dawson tallied three.
After taking on Bowie Tuesday, Sept. 9, the team picks things up for a matchup Friday, Sept. 12, against Legacy High.
