Lady Blues ranked as they look for a fifth-straight district crown
The Lady Blues began the district schedule this week ranked No. 11 in Class 4A. With a 13-2 record, the Lady Blues have begun a district schedule in a district where they have not dropped a match since losing to Burkburnett in 2016.
This season has been a season unlike any other for the Lady Blues and all high school volleyball teams in the state. COVID-19 forced the cancellation of all summer leagues. The Lady Blues played in just one pre-season tournament this year. At the start of the season, the UIL announced that it will not allow any tournaments in volleyball or basketball this season. This left the Lady Blues with a minimum of 12 lost matches from any other season. When considering the Lady Blues’ success under head coach Marci Faulk, that number is likely larger.
“They do the summer league, which is a lot,” she said before the season started. “Losing team camp is a big hit, because that’s where they all start gelling (...) My girls were at the sand courts a lot during all of this. They couldn’t get in our gym. We couldn’t allow it. They were playing sand about three or four nights a week. It’s not the same; it affects your timing. It was them playing, and them in competitive situations.”
