The Lady Blues traveled out to Denver City this weekend for another dose of tournament season volleyball. The team came out with a plus .500 record and some standout performances.
The team participated in the Fillie Festival Tournament Friday and Saturday, Aug. 29-30, and finished the weekend with a 6-2 record, picking up wins over Pecos, Midland Classical, Levelland, Friona, Shallowater and Kingdom Prep Academy.
On top of picking up six wins throughout the tournament, the team had some stellar performances in the stat department with key players rising to the occasion.
Emily Hughes led the way for the team offensively in the kills department with 38 kills. Just behind Hughes in that department was Katy McGehee who was just four shy of Hughes with 34.
Madison Cauble and Rylee Moore were next on the list with 20 kills each, meanwhile Kya Cooper and Tara Dawson rounded out the leaderboard for kills with 15 and 13 respectively.
The team also put in work on the defensive side of the ball laying out for digs.
Kaden Atwood continues to hold down the fort at the libero position, where she tallied 103 digs on the weekend with Dawson and McGehee following behind her with 81 and 47 respectively.
In particular, Lady Blues head coach Marci Faulk has previously praised players like Atwood for their ability to read the court defensively and communicate as a verbal leader.
“She reads the tip well,” Faulk said. “She’s one of them that's always talking.”
At the service line, Hadleigh Allen led the way for the team with 10 aces. Izzy Alejo and McGehee came in behind Allen with six aces each. Cooper and Dawson both picked up five aces and Atwood also contributed at the service line with four.
Allen and Cooper also held the team together like glue in the passing and setting department.
Both of them picked up big numbers for the weekend with 81 assists for Cooper and 67 for Allen.
After playing in a Match against Iowa Park Friday, Sept. 5, as well as a tournament Saturday, Sept. 6, the team picks things up against Bowie Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 5:30 p.m.
