The Lady Blues played in the Jimmy Hogan Memorial Tournament and finished with a 3-1 record and some stellar performances.
For head coach Adam Arrington, the team has largely bought into the team’s philosophy and they are showing steady improvement in all the right areas.
“The girls are being coachable, they’re trying to make adjustments and they’re just powering through,” Arrington said. “We’re still preaching make the routine plays, work on the mental part of it and coming into Spring Break, we survived tournament season, learned a lot, now we’ll have a little break and hit the final stretch of 10 games of district.”
The team’s wins were over Bridgeport, Archer City and Bowie. For the Lady Blues, the team set the tone immediately with their win over the Sissies 10-3.
After starting down 1-0 against Bridgeport, the Lady Blues took the lead with a three run bottom of the second.
Alexis Aguirre, and Hadleigh Allen were the players who drove in the runs with Aguirre hitting a line drive double, and Allen hitting a bunt and beating out the throw to first for an RBI single followed by scoring on a throwing error from Bridgeport to make it 3-1.
The Lady Blues followed this up with their highest scoring inning in the bottom of the fourth. Allen came through once again on the basepaths by scoring on a passed ball to make it 5-3.
Ruby Shaffer followed that up with a 2-RBI single, scoring Kerstin Schupbach and Montana Guinn.
Jansyn Louder doubled to left field to score Shaffer and Tiffany Cotter capped off the inning with another RBI on a sac-fly to make it 9-3.
Ruby Shaffer was on the mound in that game and struck out four batters in six innings to seal the victory.
After this tournament, the Lady Blues will look ahead to district play after Spring Break.
The district schedule for the Lady Blues kicks off Tuesday, March 17 away against Stephenville.
