In a weekend full of cold weather, the Lady Blues played red-hot and went undefeated in a tournament they hosted in Graham.

With five games on the schedule, the Lady Blues went 4-0 with one of the games getting canceled for lightning. The offense never scored less than seven runs in any of the games as Graham dominated the field.

Listed below are results, information and some stats from each game.

Lady Blues v. Haskell, (W) 7-2

The offense took some time to wake up for the weekend, but once it did, it never left. The two teams played four innings with neither able to scratch a run across. Haskell finally broke through in the top of the fifth inning and went up 2-0.

Graham knew how to respond as they scored seven runs in their half of the fifth inning before the time limit on the game hit. The Lady Blues drew two walks and strung together six singles to push their runs across and earn the win.

Emily Lawson and Olga Morales each ended the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Peyton Dobbs finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Reese Calhoun pitched all five innings, gave up two runs (one earned) and struck out 13 batters.

Lady Blues v. Muenster, (W) 18-12

In one of the wildest games of the season, the Lady Blues and Lady Hornets didn’t even complete two full innings before hitting the tournament time limit. Pitchers on both sides struggled to get outs while the offenses dominated the game.

Muenster went up 4-0 in the first inning and Graham responded with 10 runs in their half of the inning to lead 10-4. The first inning lasted nearly an hour as the teams rattled hits off each other. In their second trip to the plate, Muenster scored eight more runs to lead 12-10 before the Lady Blues responded with eight more runs as time expired.

The biggest hit of the many the Lady Blues had was a grand slam from Meagan Brooks in the first inning to get them their 10-4 lead. Brooks finished tied for the team lead with six RBIs in the game as she finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored, as well.

Zoey Harrell also had six RBIs in the game, finishing 2-for-2 while leadoff hitter Paris Tate went 1-for-2 with one RBI and three runs scored.

Lady Blues v. Springtown, (W) 9-0

As Graham entered their Saturday games, the Lady Blues continued to show out on offense in a blowout of Springtown. The team scored runs in every inning they went to the plate while Calhoun continued to pitch well on the mound.

The senior threw five innings and only allowed two hits while striking out eight batters. Graham’s offense worked steadily with contributions from all around and Brooks hit her second homer of the weekend.

Mayci Ryans went 2-for-3 with a run scored, Brooks went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Tate finished 1-for-1 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Lady Blues v. Kennedale, (W) 10-0

For their final game of the tournament weekend, the Lady Blues won another shortened game with a powerful offense. Before the game, Graham paid tribute to former softball coach and longtime educator Jimmy Hogan, who passed away a few days before.

The Lady Blues continued to flex their muscles at the plate with three runs in the second inning and seven runs in the third inning. They scored most of their runs with walks and singles, before Brooks cleared the bases with a double to push the lead to 10-0 where it stayed.

Dobbs finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, Morales went 1-for-2 with two runs scored while Calhoun and Harrell combined to throw four innings on the mound and only gave up a single hit each.

“We battled warm days, windy days, we battled all the elements, (even) rain, and I was really proud of the girls,” head coach Adam Arrington said. “We had some lows in a couple of early games, but we came out today and I challenged them just to hit the ball hard and play good defense and I thought they did that.”

Graham moved to 14-5-1 on the season with a few weeks left until they start district play. The Lady Blues will kick off their district schedule Friday, March 22 on the road at Stephenville.
