The Lady Blues picked up a victory early this week over the Wichita Falls Memorial high school basketball team despite dealing with adversity.

The team never lost the lead and picked up the victory 51-42.

The game took place Tuesday, Dec. 16 and after the first quarter the Lady Blues led 12-4. Addyson Weaver had the most points in the quarter with seven on three midrange jumpshots and a free throw make.

Ava Street backed up Weaver in the scoring department by adding a three pointer and and two pointer to finish the quarter with five points.

The Lady Blues added 16 points to their total in the second quarter to take a 28-13 lead going into halftime.

Bentleigh Martin hit a three pointer while Katy McGehee led the way with five points on two midrange buckets and a free throw.

Weaver hit two more two point jumpshots and Gabbie Reyes along with Tara Dawson each hit a two point shot.

In the third quarter however, things started to get a little dicey. McGehee went out of the game with an injury and had to be helped off the court.

Head coach Baylee Atkins said the team lost some composure in that moment but were still able to regroup.

“Once Katy went out I think we had a little bit of panic because losing a point guard changes things, but I thought they adapted pretty well,” Atkins said.

The Lady Blues still maintained a 40-28 lead after three quarters of play. Weaver scored six points on two midrange buckets as well as two free throws while Street, Reyes and Dawson each added midrange jumpshots of their own.

Graham added 11 more points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Weaver added two more two point shots as well as three free throws while Dawson hit one midrange jumper in the quarter and Street rounded things out with two free throws.

After a matchup Friday, Dec. 19, the Lady Blues pick things up for an Aggieland tournament Monday, Dec. 29 to Wednesday, Dec. 31.
