With a trip to the playoffs secured and a fifth straight district championship clinched, it could be easy to think the Lady Blues had little to play for in Friday’s district finale against Vernon. As the playoffs loom closer, the team used the match as an unofficial warmup for the playoffs, which begin this week. The Lady Blues completed their fourth straight undefeated district schedule by defeating Vernon 25-19, 25-10, 25-16.

Fast and aggressive play has been the theme for the Lady Blues this season. With a lack of height at the net, the Lady Blues have to get creative with their offense. This style of play can allow for long scoring runs for either team due to the aggressive swings.

Friday it allowed for the Lady Lions to stay in the set longer than Lady Blues coach Marci Faulk would have liked. Although the Lady Blues led the entire set, they struggled to close out at the end. They led by as much as seven at 20-13 but gave up a run to allow the visitors to narrow the gap to three at 20-17 before a Lady Blues timeout.
