The Lady Blues were not able to secure a victory over the Brock Lady Eagles during their match despite the team putting up a good fight throughout the match, losing in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-17.

Despite the team leading at points throughout all three sets and having moments of fight even when trailing, head coach Marci Faulk said the team was beaten by Brock’s fast hitters and aggressive play style.

Faulk said the team will continue to work on ramping up their own level of play as the season progresses. She added that this first round of district play always serves as a learning experience for teams like the Lady Blues to understand what to work on.

“We learn in the first round, we make adjustments, fine tune some things and then go attack in the second round,” Faulk said.

Emily Hughes kept the team competitive throughout in the front row, picking up kills while also teaming up with players like Madison Cauble for key blocks at the top of the net throughout the contest.

Kya Cooper continued to showcase her presence as both a strong hitter and setter, creating assist opportunities while also picking up points offensively in a variety of ways, whether it was faking out the defense with soft tip plays or swatting at the ball into the defensive zone for kills.

When the team was trailing 19-9 in the first set, Katy McGehee sparked a late comeback effort with a kill and multiple points at the service line, including an ace to make it 19-12.

Rylee Moore also continued to showcase her presence as both a blocker and offensive creator as well.

Treyton McCullough provided her defensive abilities to this game as well and Tara Dawson continued to be an elite playmaker in the back row by picking up points and saving possessions for the Lady Blues with key digs.

After playing Tuesday, Oct. 7 against Mineral Wells, the team picks things up on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 against Brownwood.
