The Lady Blues enjoyed a successful week last week. After losses to Iowa Park and Hirschi earlier in the district schedule, the Lady Blues sat in fourth place in the district. Following wins Tuesday and Friday, the Lady Blues are now tied for first place with Iowa Park. The jump in the standings came following Friday’s 61-53 win over the Lady Hawks at Graham High School.

The last time the two teams met, Jan. 11 at Iowa Park, the Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Blues 43-39 in a physical contest. The Lady Hawks were a week removed from suffering their first loss in district play to Burkburnett.

The Lady Hawks jumped ahead early with an 8-2 run in the game’s first two minutes, 30 seconds. After Rachel Grimsley scored her team’s first basket at the 6:22 mark in the first quarter, the Lady Blues were held without points until Katie Coyac’s 3-pointer with 3:41 remaining. Coyac’s basket sparked an 11-0 that saw the Lady Hawks scoreless for five minutes. Aiding the run was a steal and basket by Kate Gober and a second-chance opportunity by Taylor Wilborn. Gober added a 3-pointer at the 1:40 mark for the last field goal of the quarter for the Lady Blues.

The Lady Blues were held without a field goal in the second quarter. Grimsley and Gober both scored points from the free-throw line in a combined 4-4 stat line in the quarter. Lady Hawks’ leading scorer Bella Dickens, who was held to two points in the first quarter, found her scoring touch in the second quarter. Dickens scored five of the Lady Hawks’ eight points. Both teams combined for 12 points. Both teams went into halftime tied at 18.
