Lady Blues upset Stephenville, advance to regional semifinal
Lady Blues volleyball fans were in for a treat during Friday’s sold-out regional quarterfinal match against Stephenville in Mineral Wells. The Lady Blues defeated Stephenville 5-3 (22-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-27, 15-11) to advance to the regional semifinal for the first time in coach Marci Faulk’s tenure as coach of the Lady Blues.
There was a lot of anticipation in the buildup to this match. The Lady Blues had not defeated Stephenville in over a decade and was looking to advance to the regional semifinal for the first time since Lu Allen led the team. The five-set match provided a night of emotion as well as a thrilling night of entertainment.
Addison Kimberling gave the Lady Blues an emotional boost from the start with a block/kill to her side the lead to start. Both teams battled back and forth in the opener, with each side scoring on kills multiple kills. Teams traded points and short 2-0 runs until the Honeybees worked themselves into an 18-15 lead in the middle-late stages of the set.
