GRAHAM— The Graham High School softball team won the Region 1 District 6 championship after besting Vernon 8-7 in extra innings Friday night. The Lady Blues’ ending to the regular season was something fit for fiction as they made a dramatic turnaround to take the district 6 title after starting the season 1-7. “I have two daughters; it’s like I blinked and they grew up,” Graham coach Philip Irby said. “This season has been just like that. Those freshmen have grown up so much. Those were freshmen making those plays. It’s been fun to watch. If you told me at the beginning of the season where we would be at today, I would have told you no. They just came together so well … They’re goofballs, but somehow they weave together to become what they are. Most teams, this time of year, you hope you’re playing well and everyone is on the same page. We are, and we’re ready for the playoffs.” For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
