The Lady Blues kicked off the month of December winning four out of five games, with three of those wins coming last weekend at a tournament in Haskell.

After Graham defeated Eastland on the road a few days before, the team headed to Haskell where they took three out of four games. The Lady Blues defeated Jayton, Haskell and Quanah while taking a loss against Seymour.

The results moved Graham to 7-7 on the season with a handful of non-district games remaining. Listed below are results, scoring stats and a small write-up of each game at the tournament.

Lady Blues v. Jayton (W), 40-35

Graham started the tournament in a battle against Jayton. The Lady Blues and Jaybirds stayed close in scoring the entire game, and the final wasn’t determined until late.

The Lady Blues got off to a slow start, scoring just three points in the first quarter on a 3-pointer from Briley Randall. But the team fought back and tied the game at 14-14 heading into halftime, then kept it tied at 25-25 going into the fourth quarter.

All the scoring happened inside the arc in the final frame, and when the final buzzer sounded Graham held on for the win. Randall led the team in scoring with 17 points while Rebecca McGregor pitched in 9 points, Katie McGehee scored 5 points and Addyson Weaver ended with 4 points.

Lady Blues v. Haskell (W), 40-38

This game was a rematch from the team’s first game of the season, and it was even closer than the first match-up that Graham won.

The Lady Blues started out the first half strong, taking a 25-19 lead into halftime thanks to offense from Randall and Weaver. The Maidens picked things up in the third quarter to make it a two-point game heading into the final period with Graham leading 33-31.

Over the final quarter, each team scored seven points to keep the Lady Blues in front for a close win. Randall had another huge game with 18 points followed by Weaver with 8 points. Fayth Bryer scored 5 points and Hallie Gough added 4 points as well.

Lady Blues v. Seymour (L), 57-33

Graham’s only loss of the tournament was a tough one to a talented Seymour team. The Lady Panthers are now 12-3 on the season and the ability was evident in this game.

Seymour jumped out to a huge lead as the Lady Blues struggled offensively. The Lady Panthers led 16-2 after the first quarter, which was a lead they held the entire game. Graham fought back in the second and third quarters to show some offensive life, but Seymour was too much.

Randall and McGregor tied for the team lead in scoring this game with 10 points each, followed by 6 points from Weaver. Gabbie Reyes pitched in 3 points late in the game with McGehee and Gough each adding 2 points apiece.

Lady Blues v. Quanah (W), 37-33

In their final contest of the tournament weekend, the Lady Blues pulled out another close win. This one was somewhat of a comeback victory as Quanah led at halftime 19-16 thanks to a strong second quarter.

Graham’s defense held the Lady Indians down in the second half while the Lady Blues pushed ahead with a balanced offense over the final two quarters. McGehee knocked down a 3-pointer in the first half while McGregor had one in the second half.

Most of the Lady Blues’ scoring in the fourth quarter came at the free throw line, and the team did enough to seal the victory for themselves. McGehee led in scoring with 9 points while McGregor and Weaver each added 7 points.

Following their game Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Windthorst, the Lady Blues will be in another weekend tournament in Lubbock from Thursday, Dec. 12 through Saturday, Dec. 14.
