Newcastle’s magical playoff run ended Tuesday night at the hands of the defending state champions.
The Lipan Lady Indians proved to be too much as Newcastle fell 52-24 at Eastland High School in the regional quarterfinals.
Newcastle could only manage six points in the first quarter. Lipan held a 12-6 advantage going into the second.
It didn’t get any better before halftime for the Lady Cats. The Lady Indians flexed their muscles offensively and defensively. Newcastle found itself down 23-9 at the break.
Any hopes of a dramatic comeback were quickly dashed as the second half began.
A 17-2 run by the Lady Indians put the game out of reach in the third quarter. Going into the fourth, the Lady Cats were down 40-11.
