The Newcastle Ladycats played a late game matchup against the Holliday Lady Eagles, and despite another solid effort were not able to pick up the victory.
The Ladycats fell 37-17 to the Lady Eagles after the matchup Friday, Dec. 12. After the first quarter, the Ladycats kept it competitive, trailing by just five points 9-4.
Kenzie King and Emma Hawkins were the lone scorers in the quarter for the Ladycats with both players hitting midrange jumpshots.
In the second quarter, The Ladycats outscored the Lady Eagles 6-4 and took the game into halftime, trailing by just three points 13-10.
King and Hawkins once again hit a midrange jumper each but Greenleigh Moore got in on the scoring as well with a two point make of her own.
After the third quarter is where things started to slip away as the Ladycats found themselves trailing 24-15 going into the final quarter of play.
Newcastle scored five points in the third quarter coming from Hawkins and Kinzlee Sweat. Sweat hit a two point jumpshot while Hawkins added her own midrange make and a free throw from the foul line.
In the fourth quarter, Camren Mallory was the lone scorer offensively for the team with a two point shot.
Hawkins led the team in scoring for the game with seven points while King was second on the night with four points.
The trio of Mallory, Sweat and Moore rounded out the scoresheet with each player hitting a midrange jumpshot of their own to hit the 17 point total.
The Ladycats’ next contest after their matchup Tuesday, Dec. 16 is slated for 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at home against Mineral Wells.
