The Newcastle Ladycats volleyball team saw its season end in the beginning of November in a bi-district game against Strawn.

While it was a disappointing end for this squad that was hoping for more, there were bright spots to take from the game and the entire year.

With the conclusion of the season, the Ladycats were awarded some postseason honors for their excellent work both on the court and in the classroom.

This year’s team of Ladycats were young, with no seniors on the roster. Although it’s never easy to see the season come to an end, the fact that all these players will return gives hope and confidence heading into next season.

Starting with the various position awards given throughout the district, sophomore Camren Mallory was named Setter of the Year for District 11-1A after finishing the district schedule with 115 assists.

Following Mallory’s positional award, juniors Sophie Terrell and Flor Carranza were named First Team All-District for their play.

Another pair of juniors earned selections to the Second Team All-District, as Catherine Youngblood and Emma Hawkins received honors for their performances.

In addition to the hard work these players put in on the court, several of them also excelled in the classroom. Mallory, Youngblood, Carranza and junior Aubree Clayton were all selected for the Academic All-District team.
