Ladycats inch closer to sixth consecutive district title

Newcastle girls basketball head coach Layton Westmoreland knows all about the tradition and legacy the Ladycats basketball program is all about.

Westmoreland’s veteran-squad got one step closer to winning another district championship Tuesday by taking down Throckmorton by a final score of 55-40.

“We must close out against Bryson on Friday,” Westmoreland said. “With their win over Perrin tonight, they (Bryson) stay just two games behind us.”

With the two towns separated by only 26 miles, the stands were jam-packed inside NHS gymnasium for a crucial District 21-1A matchup.
