The Newcastle Ladycats' season came to end, in a hard-fought area match against the Lady Hornets.
The Ladycats quickly fell down in set one trailing 9-4 as Newcastle called its first timeout. The team then started fighting back however to keep things at a five point deficit making it 15-10 Harrold.
Eventually, the Ladycats cut the Lady Hornets lead to one 16-15 but then Harrold rattled off several consecutive points on their following possession which led to Newcastle’s second timeout trailing 19-15.
The Ladycats scored three more points in the matchup but ultimately lost 25-18.
Despite Harrold having the opening serve in set two, Newcastle actually jumped out to an early lead by a score of 2-1.
Unfortunately for Newcastle, they were able to generate enough multiple point runs after this as the Lady Hornets quickly jumped out to a 9-5 lead and then a 14-7 lead which both resulted in timeouts for the Ladycats.
The team put up a fight after this but ultimately lost 25-12 in the set. Set three was once again a bit of a struggle for the Ladycats. The team was trailing early and ultimately had to use two timeouts once again.
The first timeout came when they were trailing 14-8 and the second came when they were trailing 19-9.
Despite this deficit, the team did show grit down the stretch, pulling out multiple points in their later possessions to pull things to within five by a score of 24-19, however it was simply too much to overcome as the team would end up dropping the set and match on Harrold’s next possession by a final score of 25-19.
Despite the loss, the Newcastle community should be proud of what was accomplished this year.
This was a very veteran heavy group of players and they upheld the continued excellence of the Ladycats volleyball program and once again made it to the area round of the playoffs.
The team also has a lot of young developing players coming up next year, so the future is bright for the Ladycats volleyball program.
