Ladycats shine at state cross country meet

After the entire Newcastle Ladycats cross country team qualified for the state meet in Round Rock, one Ladycat managed to return home in 19th place out of all 1A girls participating.

During the state meet Friday, Oct. 31 in Round Rock, the Ladycats competed against 16 teams and finished 14th overall. 

The Ladycats had five participating runners on their team. Allison Melton was once again the team’s top runner, finishing in the top 19th overall out of 145 runners. 

Greenleigh Moore, Reese Ribble, Sarah Northington and Rae’Lynn Bennett also had strong times and provided great support for the team to cap off a successful season. 

The regional meet was held Monday, Oct. 20 in Arlington with Newcastle being the last team to qualify, finishing fourth out of 32 schools. In order to qualify for the state meet, advancing teams must finish in the top four.

The Newcastle community has something to be proud of with the Ladycats who showed their skills on the biggest stage this year.
