The Lady Blues took major strides in their quest for a third-consecutive district championship Tuesday night. With a 45-41 win Tuesday night at Burkburnett High School, the Lady Blues jump from fourth place in District 5-4A to second place.

Tuesday night marked the beginning of the second half of the district schedule. Going into the night the Lady Blues sat in fourth place behind Iowa Park, Burkburnett and Hirschi. The Lady Blues and Hirschi held the same 3-2 record with Hirschi taking third place on account of their win over the Lady Blues Jan. 14. The Lady Bulldogs gave an assist to the Lady Blues Jan. 21 when they defeated Iowa Park, 36-35.

The Lady Blues opened the game with their quickest start of the season. Within 90 seconds, the Lady Blues were ahead 7-2 and had made their first three shots. The Lady Bulldogs responded with a full-court press. The adjustment combined with rushed shots caused the Lady Blues to miss their next five shots over the next four and a half minutes. The scoring drought was ended by Gober following an offensive rebound and assist by Katie Coyac. The Lady Blues took a 9-6 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter started hot for the Lady Blues but quickly cooled. Gober found Erica Popplewell for a 3-pointer to open the quarter 48 seconds into the quarter. That was the last Lady Blues field goal until 38 seconds were remaining in the half when Gober hit her lone 3-pointer of the game.
