Magazine picks Steers to win district, again

The Graham Steers head into District 3-4A Division II knowing where they stand according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. The yearly publication has Graham finishing in first in front of Iowa Park and Vernon. The magazine has the Steers ranked at the sixth-best team in DII, with the Hawks ranked at No. 20. Despite losing 27 lettermen and just five returning starters back on both sides of the ball, there appears to be no drop-off in terms of talent returning. The magazine states that the team will have to mature quickly and that running back Chase Gilmore is poised for another talented season, behind offensive linemen Garrsion Stovall and Jack Mercer. There is no question that Gilmore is one of the top talents in the district and Region I. After getting the bulk of his 1,931 yards on the ground during his junior season, the writers of Dave Campbell's selected Gilmore the Preseason Offensive Most Valuable Player in 3-4A. Graham had one of their best seasons in school history in 2017 by going 14-1 and earned a trip to the state semifinals, but graduation hit the Steers hard. The "Bible" of Texas high school football mentions that the defensive line will be one of the team's top strengths with Will Hays and Klayton Read returning to stop opposing....
