Newcastle’s Allison Melton was named to the 2025-2026 Texas High School Coaches Association’s Super Elite Team and the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Team for cross country.

The THSCA awards honor student-athletes from across the state for their performance in the season. To be nominated a student must be a varsity athlete in good standing, demonstrate strong character and athletic performance and nominated by a head coach.

Team honorees are nominated by the THSCA processional members and selected through a review process led by sport advisory committees and the Super Elite Team (SET) Committee. The SET Committee includes 808 coaches representing all eight THSCA regions.

TGCA is a statewide girls athletics organization for the coaches of girls’ athletics and governed by coaches of girls’ athletics.

Melton was one of seven athletes selected for the THSCA Class A Super Elite Team and to the TGCA All-State Team for 1A Girls Cross Country.

After the entire Newcastle Ladycats cross country team qualified for the state meet in Round Rock, Melton managed to return home in 19th place out of all 1A girls participating.

This was the second-consecutive year Melton had competed at the UIL state competition.

During the state meet Friday, Oct. 31 in Round Rock, the Ladycats competed against 16 teams and finished 14th overall.
