Newcastle, Bryson CC runners compete at district meet

With the ultimate goal of the cross country season on the horizon in the state meet, area runners from Bryson and Newcastle each tried to take the first step towards that journey on Oct 19 at the district competition held at Throckmorton. Several boys and girls managed to punch their ticket to the regional meet, which will be held Monday Oct. 31 from Grand Prairie with the state meet taking place on Nov. 12 from Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. In the varsity boys race, Newcastle's Levi Martinez finished in 10th overall with a time of 24:37, with teammates Richard Chapla and David Gossett coming in 12th and 13th respectively with times of 27:11 and 37:07. Meanwhile in the varsity girls race, Robbi Blair from Newcastle claimed second overall in the individual standings with a time of 13:49, with teammates Amy Martinez and Kathleen Shields finishing in fourth and fifth respectively with times of 15:01 and 15:15. Bailey Smith was the top finisher for the Bryson Cowgirls as she crossed the finish line in ninth overall with a time of 16:27.50, with teammates Carolina Feregrino and Taylor Gregory claiming 13th and 14th with times of 18:34 and 19:09.
