Newcastle, Bryson tab athletes for regional meet

The Newcastle High School girls track and field team took first in last week’s area meet, edging out Gorman by a point, while the Bryson Cowgirls finished third with 84 points. The Lady Bobcats and Cowgirls each had strong showings while their male counterparts also performed well, with dozens making the top four in his or her event to advance to Friday’s regional meet. Girls results Bryson sophomore Sydney Davidson tabbed herself in the regional meet in two individual events, first taking the triple jump with a 33-foot personal record-setting leap. Davidson would also take fourth in the 100-meter dash (14.05 seconds) later that day. In the distance events, Newcastle junior Robbi Blair took third in the 3,200 (13:21.31) and also took second the in 1,600 (6:13.84). Newcastle freshman Amy Martinez took third in the 800 (2:51.09).
