Newcastle girls advance to third-round after rallying late

Things did not come easy, but the Newcastle Ladycats are back in the regional quarterfinals. A sixth consecutive trip to the third round was booked Friday night at Tioga High School, where Newcastle downed Yantis 59-45.

The Ladycats trailed by two at halftime when first-year head coach Layton Westmoreland went to one of his seniors to turn the momentum around.

Nicole Martinez scored 11 of her game-high 27 points in the third quarter, igniting a big-time rally to help Newcastle advance.
