Newcastle ISD will honor its athletes this week during the annual Newcastle Athletic Banquet.
The athletic program will celebrate and honor athletes from cross country, volleyball, cheer, basketball, powerlifting, track, golf, tennis and fishing during the ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22 in the legacy gym. Eighth-grade athletes are requested to arrive at 5:45 p.m. to help serve.
Highlights from this school year in Newcastle sports most recently include three athletes competing last week in the state track meet. Several athletes from both the boys and girls track teams competed in the area track meet last month.
In tennis, the doubles duo of Rylan Hinojosa and Jayden Hemby advanced to the regional tennis tournament in their first season of competition.
The boys’ golf team of Hunter Hill, Joey Soito, Jayden Hemby, Keyton Newland, Bryce Moulder and Hudson Hill qualified and competed in the region golf tournament. Bailey Youngblood represented Newcastle in the tournament as an individual on the girls’ side. Newcastle High School saw several athletes across multiple sports make playoff runs this year.
These athletes and many more will be honored and celebrated following dinner at the banquet.
