Newcastle athletics officially entered its fall schedule with the start of two-a-day practices for volleyball. The district will officially present its newest slate of athletes to the community at their annual Meet The Bobcats event.
Newcastle football head coach Isiah Archer said that this year's annual event will take place Thursday, Aug. 7, starting at 7 p.m.
At the event, members of the football, volleyball, cross country and cheerleading teams will be present and introduced to their community and student body alike.
On top of this, Lady Blues volleyball head coach Ashley Archer said that the booster club in Newcastle also brings in vendors for the event with different activity and information booths for parents and community members.
They also have in years past had opportunities such as sign ups for the little kids in the town to run through the football tunnel, snack stations and photo stations as well.
“There’s all these fun little stations to get you plugged into the community and the school,” Ashley Archer said. “It’s just a fun way to get everyone excited about all the sports coming up.”
Coaches like the Archers are very appreciative of the opportunity the booster bash presents, both as a platform to showcase the latest crop of talented athletes Newcastle has to offer and as a community builder.
“I think it’s awesome,” Ashley Archer said. “This is probably the best booster club that I’ve ever been a part of. I think it gets the little kids excited. They get to wear their little green tie-dye shirts, run through the tunnel, they get free hot dogs at the games. It gives the parents another reason to bring their kids and they just get excited about being Bobcats one day or Ladycats.”
The volleyball coach also went on to say that this in turn also becomes a big benefit for the student athletes participating in the bash because they always have someone who looks up to them as a role model.
Archer said that younger kids in the community look up to these student athletes as heroes and role models. This is a great way of building character and handling potential adversity because one knows the next generation is always looking up to them.
The community has to wait just a few more weeks to see what the latest slate of Newcastle talent has to offer this season.
