Newcastle Ladycats win area track meet; Bryson Cowgirls take third place

The Newcastle Ladycats track and field team dominated the District 17/18-1A area track and field meet on April 18 in Bryson. The Ladycats won the 13-team meet over second-place Gorman by 26 points. KC Shields and Arryn Eli each finished in the top four in five events to advance to the Region III-1A regional meet. Shields took first in two events and second in three others while Eli earned first in one event, three second-place finishes and a fourth-place finish. Robbi Blair, Kelsey Shields, Rylee Hardin and Amy Martinez also will compete in regionals. The Bobcats came in third-place overall with 68 total team points. Just like the varsity girls, all three of the relay teams made the regional cut. Lane Brice, JD Brice, JT Spurlin and Gage Bozeman each advanced to the regional meet in three different events with Luke Eli advancing in two events. Ethan Lyons and Christian Chapla also had strong showings at area to advance to the next round. The Bryson Cowboys and Cowgirls also competed in the meet with the girls taking fourth and the boys earning seventh. Bryson’s Sydney Davidson headlined the group by earning a regional bid in four separate events. Vikki Goodman, Nikki Goodman, Rachel Robinson, Hannah Robinson, Maddee Moore and Kayleigh Pippin also advanced to regionals. Joining the seven girls at regionals will be John Bagwell, Tristan Stephens,Harley Hammond, Dillon Orr, T.J. Imotichey and Ethan Smith.
