Newcastle ready to regain winning ways

2017 proved to be a tough season for the Newcastle football team. The Bobcats endured a 4-6 record and failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in several years.

The losing season marked the first time since the 2008 season in which the Bobcats had a losing season.

Newcastle began their new season Monday with the start of two-a-day practices at 8 a.m. The first day saw the team hit the field for two-and-a-half hours.

Julian Menchaca takes over as the new head coach, coming over from Aspermont in the summer. When the 29-year old heard about the job opening, he quickly jumped on the phone to Superintendent Ty Spitzer.

“This job just presents itself as Newcastle,” Menchaca said. “When anybody think of Newcastle they think of a legacy that is competitive in football for years. It goes back to the 80s and 90s. You know Newcastle is going to be tough and be competitive every single game.
