Newcastle’s volleyball season begins with new coach

The Newcastle Ladycats opened the new season with a new volleyball coach. Paige Hauger takes over for former head coach James King.

While it may be her first head coaching job, Hauger is all too familiar with the area. The Bryson native inherits a team that is filled with talent after losing just two seniors to graduation.

“The first few days have been amazing,” Hauger said. “Just when I think I’m about as excited as one could possibly get the girls spark something new and I become even more excited. They have such great work ethic and are so willing to change their bad habits to get better.”

Although the Ladycats must replace K.C. Shields from last season, there is still plenty of returning stars to help fill the void. Newcastle welcomes back several talented standouts including Arryn Eli, Nicole Martinez, Kelsey Shields ad Kelsi New.

Hauger takes over Newcastle program which had success with King.  The Ladycats earned just five combined wins over a two year span from 2015-2016, but improved significantly last season.
