Even though they have only played two games this season, the No. 22 Newcastle Lady Cats basketball team has already shown they can win close games. Saturday afternoon this statement held true as Newcastle went on the road and pulled out a narrow 46-41 over the Albany Lady Lions. Albany led 9-5 after the first quarter, before Newcastle responded with a 20-10 run in the second quarter to take a 25-19 advantage at the half. The Lady Cats kept the pressure up in the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Lions 11-6 in the third quarter, before Albany rallied back with a 16-10 fourth quarter, only to fall short. Holly Manos led the Lady Cats with 13 points in the contest, followed by KC Shields with 10 points. Arryn Eli scored 9 points, with Hannah Birdwell adding 8 points and Nicole Martinez scoring 6 points. Newcastle (2-0) was scheduled to play its home opener Tuesday night against Crowell, and will play in the Seymour Tournament Nov. 17 through Nov. 19.
