No-hitter can’t stop Lady Blues
GRAHAM— Not even a 10-strikeout by Burkburnett pitcher Jocelyn Bright could stop the Graham Lady Blues from picking up their fourth district victory in a 1-0 shutout.
While Bright had a stellar day on the mound so did Graham freshman Emma Southerland, who two-hit the Lady Bulldogs while in route to her second consecutive shutout victory.
“Good teams find a way to win,” Graham coach Philip Irby said. “Around the second or third inning, I could tell Emma was on and their pitcher was on. I think we had about 14 hits the last time we faced them. You got the feeling it was going to come down to who made the first mistake.”
With the two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Southerland stepped onto the mound facing a full count. The Burkburnett batter sent a liner to center field only for Graham junior outfielder Aubree Beggs to pluck it out of the air, secure the win and improve the Lady Blues’ Region 1 District 6 record to 4-1.
