Graham sports is going through a shift from summer into winter sports with the start of basketball season.
This week, The Graham Leader is recognizing Adi Pinkston of the Lady Blues and Nick Wankowicz of the Steers as Athletes of the Week.
Adi Pinkston, Lady Blues Basketball
The Lady Blues were off to a great start to begin the season, jumping out to a 3-0 regular season record after defeating the Windthorst Trojanettes.
Standing out for the Lady Blues was their electric shooting ability. Not only has Graham picked up wins, they’ve picked up convincing wins with their offensive attack.
The Lady Blues scored 55 or more points in each of their first three wins of the season, with the other two wins coming over Haskell and Wichita Falls Legacy.
One of the scoring contributors in the Lady Blues’ latest win over the Trojanettes, though, was Pinkston.
Pinkston showed off her versatility as a scorer by hitting a free throw at the line in the first quarter while also knocking down a midrange shot in the second quarter.
She ended her night with three points in the Lady Blues’ 55-35 win on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
The Lady Blues have been scoring in bunches and seeing a distribution of points from many players, with solid performances from players like Pinkston to keep up their early season momentum.

Nick Wankowicz, Steers Basketball
The Graham Steers opened their season Tuesday, Nov. 18 on the road against the Millsap Bulldogs and saw an offensive explosion.
Graham dropped 72 points in their win over Millsap, including 39 points in the second half.
The Steers saw several key contributors put up big numbers to lead to the scoring barrage, but Wankowicz stood out on the night.
The frontcourt player was vital for the team picking up key rebounds and second chance scoring opportunities while also hitting a bevy of midrange shots.
Wankowicz finished the night with a double-double, picking up 18 points and 13 rebounds. Six of those rebounds were offensive and seven of them were defensive.
Wankowicz also had an assist, three pass deflections, three steals and one block.
The Steers will count on more solid performances from players like Wankowicz as the team progresses into the season.
