District 3-4A DII in football will have a lot of new faces when the district schedule begins on Oct. 8. Bridgeport, Iowa Park, Vernon and Mineral Wells all have coaches beginning their first year at their respective schools, with Steers coach Kenny Davidson being the only coach returning from last year.

Graham and Iowa Park will likely battle for the first and second playoff seeds, with Bridgeport, Vernon and Mineral Wells battling for the third and fourth playoff spots in the district.

Bridgeport (Oct. 8)

New coach J.D. Martinez, previously of Sheridan, takes over the Bulls this year. It won’t be hard to improve on last year’s 1-7 record. Martinez will have some experience to work with this season with Mason McComis returning at quarterback. McComis threw for 1,253 yards as a sophomore starter last year. The problem him and running back Chris Pritchard will face is a lack of size in front of them on the line. However, the line does boast experience and will look to have improved from last year. It was an offensive line that gave up four sacks to the Steers when the two teams met last year.

There are a lot of obstacles for the Bulls to overcome if they want to enjoy their first winning season since 2014. Unfortunately for the Bulls, that could be insurmountable.
